Charlotte-Douglas International Airport approved a contract with Archer Western Contractors, LTD. in the amount of $120,920,000 for construction of a new parking deck.  The new deck will replace the existing 2,713 space Hourly Decks located directly in front of the terminal.  Since 1990, the Airport has experienced 6.7% annualized rate of growth in passengers which has generated demand for additional short-term parking capacity.  The new structure will follow the design of the existing permanent deck that features corrugated, perforated stainless-steel, curved cladding.

The new deck will house the Consolidated Rental Car Facility permitting customers to access cars with a short walk from the Terminal to the new facility.  This will enhance customer service and remove the buses that currently serve remote rental car facilities.  The removal of buses is expected to ease congestion on the roadways, improve air quality, and save rental car concessionaires money.  Moving the rental car facilities from Rental Car Road will allow for construction of a future international terminal.  The rental car portion of the costs will be paid for with proceeds from Revenue Bonds.

Archer Western chose ProCLAD to furnish and install the perforated stainless cladding as well as the insulated metal panels at the rental car areas.  One-fourth of ProCLAD's business is comprised of metal cladding for parking structures.  Substantial completion for the new parking facility is scheduled for November 3, 2014.  The advisory committee at the Airport is now working on an $860 million international terminal expansion.
